      Snapshots of Acronis TrueImage

> Click here to read Dennis' review of Acronis TrueImage

The entire process of creating an image file using TrueImage can be summarized with the following steps:

  1. Create, restore, or view an image file -> Create a disk image backup
  2. Choose the drive to image
  3. Save image file to ...
  4. Choose compression level
  5. Split / Span the archive
  6. Password Protect Archive
  7. Add Comments
  8. Commence Operation

Step 1: Create, restore, or view an image file

Step 2: Choose the drive to image

Here, you can choose which drive(s) you wish to archive.  Typically, users will want to select the C drive for imaging since most Windows installations exist on the C drive.

Step 3: Save image file to ... [fixed disk]

Here, users can choose to save the image file name to another hard drive [partition] or any removable medium [CD-R/W or ZIP disk].

With respect to the picture above, I've decided to backup my C drive and write the image to the D drive.  Having the image saved to another hard drive partition will typically write an image faster than a CD-R/W drive and does not require splitting [spanning] an image to make it fit.

Step 4: Choose compression level

A greater compression level results in a smaller image file size.  The highest compression will take the longest time to complete.

Step 5: Split / Span the archive

If you're saving the image file directly to a removable media such as CD-R/W [650 or 700 meg capacity], you will definitely want to split your archive.

Step 6: Password Protect Archive

If you wish to password protect your image file, you can do so here.

Step 7: Add comments

Add notes about your archive (not required).

Step 8: Commence operation

The time to complete will be estimated in real-time.
