Free Movies, Documentaries, Sports, and More Now Available on Google

A new message is now appearing on Google's video Web site:

"You can now watch selected videos for free -- thanks to our sponsors. These videos usually sell from $0.99 to $14.99."

That's good news for net addicts with a few hours to kill.

You won't find Casablanca, the Super Bowl, or WrestleMania -- but there should be something among Google's sponsored videos to tickle your fancy. Besides, as the old saying goes, "free is free."

You're probably wondering how Google can afford to give away premium content on the house. The old-fashioned way, of course: good ol' advertising.

To Google's credit, the ads are non-invasive. That means no pesky pop-ups or scary spyware. Instead, the sponsors post links to both their web site and commercials hosted elsewhere on Google Video.

Videos can be rated on a five-star scale, labeled, commented on, and "shared" via e-mail. Labels allow viewers to associate a certain word or phrase with the video, making it easier to search for later. (Source: PCMag.com)
