Girl Lured to Life in Taxicab by Online Stalker

With all of the hysteria surrounding viral and spyware attacks or the hacking of government agencies, sometimes we lose sight of those truly vulnerable on the Internet: our kids. A Saskatchewan mother recently felt the sting when her 14-year-old daughter fled with a 41-year-old man who she met online.

Last Tuesday, the girl snuck out of her parents' home to meet a man old enough to be her father. However, she didn't expect it to be that way; up until their meeting, the girl was under the impression her new friend would be much younger.

When they finally did meet, Daniel George Nickolson forced the girl to live with him in a taxicab. Luckily for the girl and her parents, the abducted teen had left a note for her mother before leaving. By working with Winnipeg police, the parents were able to locate their daughter and Nickolson, who is now facing charges of abduction, amongst others.

In an interview on Canadian network CTV, Nickolson's sister apologized for her brother and his family. "I can't imagine what that mother must have been thinking," Nickolson's sister said. "On behalf of my family, I want to be able to tell her family how sorry we are for what she went through." (Source: winnipegsun.com)

The abducted girl has been returned to the safety of her parents' home. Her mother, still shaky, warned other parents that it could happen to anyone. "There are just so many predators that seek to grab children out there, you have to be vigilant, and to watch, this can literally happen to any parent of a young person." (Source: ecanadanow.com)

Nickolson, a native of Windsor, Ontario (directly across from Detroit) will be transferred from Winnipeg to Saskatchewan to face charges of abduction.
