VisualWare CallerIP Review
by Dennis Faas | updated 20050706 @ 07:41PM EST | google it | send to friends
Channel: Software Spotlight (related terms: ip address, suspect activity, ip monitors)

Synopsis: Fact: The moment you are connected to the Internet, your system is vulnerable to outside intruders, even with an anti-hacker Firewall in place! So how would you know if your system is being hacked right now? Answer: using VisualWare CallerIP, of course! With CallerIP, you get realtime monitoring information -- visually -- so you can instantly identify suspect activity to *and* from your computer (such as Hackers, Spyware, and Trojans). VisualWare CallerIP is so useful, it should have been renamed to VisualWare Internet "Caller ID"!

VisualWare CallerIP: How it works

Similar to Caller ID on your telephone, CallerIP identifies who is connecting to your computer.

Quite often, "backdoor" programs can be installed onto your system without your knowledge, possibly by installing a program disguised as a legitimate application, or simply by visiting a website that has been infected by a virus. Due to their stealthy nature, backdoors are often not detected by firewalls. CallerIP actively monitors your system ports and alerts you to possible backdoor threats, and should be used in addition to a firewall and anti-virus program to provide added protection.

CallerIP monitors your system in real-time, including the connection time, remote and local IP address, country of origin, remote and local ports being accessed and process ID. A simple click on an IP address shows you where the connection originates on a global map, along with worldwide Whois lookups for detailed contact and abuse reporting information. A detailed log provides information for all connections and connection attempts, with search capabilities for quick lookups of specific items.

VisualWare CallerIP: Key Features

  • Real-time monitoring instantly identifies suspect activity and Spyware: CallerIP monitors all connections to and from your system and actively scans ports for possible back doors that allow unauthorized access.

  • Identifies the country of origin for all connections: A connection to/from a high-risk country is a key indicator of suspect activity and could likely be someone looking to steal your confidential information or compromise your system. CallerIP shows you the country location of connections so you can identify suspect activity and protect your information.

  •

  • Network Provider reporting with abuse reporting information: See the contact and abuse reporting information for the company providing internet access for an IP address or website, so you can easily report hackers or Internet abuse.

  • Automated alerts of high-risk connections: Instant notifications for high risk or suspect connections are provided by email, pop-up window, or color-coded reports. And customizable alerts enable you to see an alarms for a connection by type (incoming/outgoing), country of origin, IP address, port or process name.

  • Worldwide Whois reports: CallerIP Pro queries worldwide databases to report the up-to-date registration information for the 'owner' of an IP address or domain. Information includes name, address, phone and email contact information.

  • Detailed log of connection history with search options: Each connection or attempted connection is automatically logged, with search capabilities for quick lookups of past connection activity.

  • Identify Hacker and Spyware Connections: CallerIP monitors open ports on your system, which are necessary in order to access and use the Internet. Popular services such as email, web browsing, instant messaging and chat programs require open ports to send and receive information. Unfortunately these ports can also be used by malicious backdoor programs and Spyware which enable hackers to gain access to your confidential information, including credit card information and passwords to online banking, and is a frequent method of identity theft.

VisualWare CallerIP: Purchase

VisualWare CallerIP can be downloaded immediately after purchase via the eSellerate web site ($39.95).
