Never Too Old For Love: Senior Citizen Dating Site Launched

Monster.com founder Jeff Taylor is now playing cupid: he's just launched Eons.com, a dating site for senior citizens (Source: wired.com).

Ironically, the 45-year-old Taylor is ineligible to join his own creation: members have to be 50 or older.

Taylor obviously understands that most seniors have come to realize that life is a marathon, not a sprint. Unlike the majority of dating portals found on the Internet, Eons encourages more than just a quick fix. It's a full-fledged community that offers its members a variety of features outside of romance:

  • Articles: Entertainment, love, money, body, interviews, and more.

  • Hobbies & Interests: There are groups for general hobbies, home and garden, sports and outdoor, and wine and dine.

  • Message Boards and Blogs: Members can "swap tips, share insights, and make friends."

  • Goal Lists: Create a top ten, share your list, and see who else has similar goals.

  • LifeMap: Share your life stories. You can post one memory at a time in a number of specific categories: family, jobs, education, friends, relationships, and achievements.

  • Longevity Calculator: This tool will give you tips on how to live longer.

  • The "cRANKy" Search Engine: Overwhelmed by Google? This search engine pumps out results specifically geared to folks 50 and older. (No joke -- the search engine is named "cRANKy").

  • Obituaries: A strange feature for Eons to promote in its press release, but death is a fact of life. The website claims to house "the largest national database of obituaries in the United States."

Some other fast facts from the website:

  • "71% of all our Eons members are between the ages of 50 and 60 years old.

  • New members are evenly split between men and women.

  • 18% of new Eons visitors are from the West Coast region of the U.S."

The best part: no senior citizen discount needed -- membership is free. (Source: eons.com - 1, 2, and 3)
