24 Hour Battery Life For New HP Laptop -- Running Windows XP, of course

Hewlett-Packard (HP) will reportedly release a laptop next month boasting a high-capacity battery that lasts up to 24 hours without charge -- provided it runs Microsoft's Windows XP operating system rather than Windows Vista.
HP's EliteBook 6930p 14in. laptop, targeted at businesses, will need a 12-cell Ultra-Capacity Battery which sells for $189 and lasts about 10 hours longer than the regular-capacity one. The Ultra-Capacity Battery weighs 1.77lb/0.8kg compared to a weight of 0.7lb/0.3kg for the standard battery.
Despite Microsoft's increasingly desperate attempts to push Windows Vista, HP said it will offer downgrades from Vista to Windows XP on business laptops through next year.
The newly configured model will have HP's Illumi-Lite LED (light-emitting diode) display which HP says adds four more hours to a battery's life than a traditional LCD (liquid crystal display) screen.
More power savings will come from using an Intel SSD (solid-state drive) which uses power-saving NAND flash memory instead of a rotating magnetic disk to store information. HP says using an Intel SSD allows the battery to last around 7 percent longer.
The current version of the 6930p starts at $1,199 on HP's web site. The price for the 24-hour battery configuration has not been listed yet.
