In MS Word 2007 there is a great new feature that I love and I think once you learn of it you will grow to love it as well.
Don't you hate it when you have your document all finished and then decide you don't like the margins? Unfortunately, when you change the margins in your beautiful new document all of the tabs are off.
Well, guess what? The 'Alignment Tab' feature in MS Word 2007 allows you to change your margins without fussing over the tabs! This great new feature aligns data in relation to the margin in your document so that when you change your margins your text will automatically be aligned.
For instance, you can use Alignment Tabs to create a header with a right-aligned page number. Follow the steps below to learn how:
- Click the Insert tab.
- Under Header & Footer, click Header.
- Click Blank.
- Type Chapter One.
- In the Position group, click Insert Alignment Tab.
- Click the Right button and then click OK.
- Click Page Number in the Header And Footer group.
- Point to Current Position.
- Click Plain Number.
- Double-click outside the header to return to your document.
Now, when change your margins, the page number will readjust automatically to be right-aligned with the margin.
The only way in which you can only access the Alignment Tab dialog box is when editing a header or footer (this is the default setting). To use this feature elsewhere in your document, you can add the Insert Alignment Tab command to your Quick Access Toolbar (QAT).
Here's how:
- In the Header/Footer Design tab, right-click the Insert Alignment Tab command in the Position Group of the Insert tab.
- Select Add To Quick Access Toolbar.
Bet you wish you had known about this before, don't you?
