When a 15-year-old daughter complained on Facebook that having to perform chores without being paid a decent allowance made her a "slave," her angry father took her laptop into the yard and blasted it with a handgun.
Having thoughtfully video-recorded the entire event and posted it for Internet consumption, Tommy Jordan (the father) now finds himself a YouTube phenomenon.
So far, more than 22 million people have watched Jordan's eight-minute YouTube video, in which he reads his daughter Hannah's Facebook note entitled "To My Parents."
Dad Accused of Overworking Teenage Daughter
While updating his daughter's computer, the senior Jordan, an ex-Marine who currently works in the IT industry, found Hannah's diatribe -- which essentially accuses him of overworking her with chores. (Source: cnet.com)
Coincidentally, Hannah had blocked her father from reading the account on Facebook, but apparently didn't think he might find the note while installing software on her computer.
Incensed by Hannah's accusation and her decision to post it for friends to read on the social networking site, Jordan decided to take action.
He then brought his daughter's laptop outside, placed it on the grass, and fired nine hollow-tipped bullets through it with a .45-calibre handgun.
Video Draws Attention of Authorities
The passionate scene was enough to attract millions of Facebook viewers, including officials associated with Child Protective Services.
According to a Facebook post by Tommy Jordan himself, they recently visited his home in Albemarle, North Carolina to investigate.
Jordan admitted that local police had also stopped by to question him about the video, which alarmed some viewers.
Jordan says nothing came of either visit. In fact, the now-famous dad says the police offered a "Kudos, sir" to congratulate him on his actions and his new-found fame.
"How's about those apples?" Jordan posted on Facebook. "Didn't expect THAT when you called the cops did you?" (Source: thedaily.com)
Overall, it appears Jordan has few regrets about the video.
"I'd have worn my Silverbelly Stetson... if I'd known that image was going to follow me the rest of my life," Jordan said. "That's it. I meant all the rest of it." (Source: thedaily.com)
