How well do you understand the inner-workings of your computer?
By glance, your PC looks like a single piece of hardware wrapped up in a nice box.
But what most folks don't realize is that inside that sleek computer case are hundreds of physical components (memory locations, processor pathways, electrical power regulators, capacitors, switches, plus all the rest) -- all of which have to work perfectly in complete harmony, or your computer becomes unresponsive, unreliable, and sometimes, completely inoperative.
The Modern Day PC: Similar to Engine Room
Down at the lower levels of your computer system is an intricate link of device drivers. For simplicity sake, you can think of device drivers like the machines in the engine room of a cruise ship.
Device drivers (also known as "software device drivers for hardware") are in actuality a specialized type of computer program that work as a liaison between all your computer hardware components and the operating system (Microsoft Windows).
For example, a device driver allows your computer's processing unit (the CPU) and your mouse, video card, printer, hard drive, and similar to work together. Without a device driver, your hardware simply won't work at all -- and with an incorrect out out-of-date device driver, your hardware may function erratically, or not function at all.
" Drivers can become outdated and possibly damaged to the point where they slow the system performance. " ~ Microsoft.com

Why Updating Device Drivers is Important
Although almost every software program can be set to check for updates, the opposite is true for software drivers: they do not update automatically.
Your choice, then, has traditionally been to allow your drivers to go out of date, and run the twin risks of performance problems and device driver errors, or to periodically check the status of each and every driver yourself and manually update any that need it.
Why Updating Device Drivers Manually is Dangerous
With so many devices inside your PC, it's a near impossible task to manage by hand. And, unless you know exactly where to go online the Internet to update your device driver, it can often lead to a dead end: often resulting in frustration and a lot of wasted time -- or worse.
Typically, device drivers are available from the manufacturer's web site. Oftentimes, however, the web page containing the software driver is buried deep on the manufacturer's web site because there are literally hundreds -- if not thousands of similar devices (and models) offered by the same manufacturer. Thus, users have trouble finding the appropriate page.
Unfortunately, many of the appropriate driver pages are not optimized for search engines, and rarely ever get found when users search for them using Google (for example). Subsequently, other third-party web sites pretend to offer drivers, by spamming search engines (like Google) for keywords related to drivers, so that people like you and I click on their page. But be careful -- because clicking on the wrong page can lead you down a dangerous path and may even infect your PC with a virus.
Watch Out for Malicious Websites 'Offering' Drivers
Many websites pretending to offer device drivers only do it to collect your email address. Even if you get access to their site by handing over your personal information, the driver is out of date. Many of these unsavory sites also trick users into paying for a "subscription" to their site for the same software driver that is usually available for free from the manufacturer.
Worse yet: some web sites place malicious links on their pages which lead the user into thinking they are downloading a device driver, when in fact, they are downloading a rogue program that delivers a virus payload.
Thankfully, there is a much easier and safer way to updating your device drivers.
Introducing Uniblue DriverScanner 2012
DriverScanner 2012 is a safe, automated driver update system that takes inventory of your entire system and automatically updates your most critical drivers, without delay.
DriverScanner 2012 is made by Uniblue: a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, and the authors of SpeedUpMyPC and RegistryBooster.
How DriverScanner 2012 Works
As soon as you install DriverScanner 2012, it looks all through your computer system and identifies every device and its driver. Then it checks each of those drivers to see if there's a newer one, downloads any updated drivers that exist, and offers them to you for simple and fast replacement of the older ones.
Once DriverScanner starts, it takes only a few seconds to find and evaluate all the drivers in your systems. Any necessary downloads happen as quickly as the download sites can feed the new drivers to your system, and replacement takes only about 10 seconds per driver.
" If you feel that your computer may be unstable because of outdated system drivers, the safest way to update them would be with the DriverScanner utility. Trying to update drivers on your own is a long and possibly a computer crashing experience. " ~ Whatsabyte.com

Using DriverScanner 2012 On My PC
The interface is clean and simple.
- The Overview tab offers a speedometer-type dial to show you the overall health of your drivers, witih a button to start a new scan for outdated drivers. However, you need never bother with this, as it's extremely easy to set
DriverScanner to run automatically as often as you wish.
-
The Driver Scan tab offers a readout on the age of your outdated drivers, along with the results of any previous scans you've run, and a list of outdated drivers that the system is ready to update for you.
- The Manage tab shows you the history of drivers you've replaced, along with outdated drivers you've chosen to ignore (if any), and links that allow you to restore any drivers you wish you hadn't updated.
- Finally, the Settings tab gives you access to controls over DriverScanner itself, including checkboxes that let you set the software to start whenever you boot into Windows and/or run a scan whenever you start the software.
" So my advice is this: if you want to manage your drivers better, you need Uniblue's DriverScanner. It's inexpensive, easy to use, and performs its job admirably. " ~ Cooltoolawards.com

Automated Driver Backup System
Once this was finished, I could have simply installed any of the drivers right away. However, the program advised me to use its backup feature to make a copy of my existing set of drivers. This covers the unlikely event of any problems with the updated drivers and seems a sensible precaution.
It's also worth using this tool as part of your regular backup procedure as it would save a lot of time if you ever had to reinstall your operating system or switched to a new machine.
Benefits of Using DriverScanner 2012
Updating drivers ensures that your hardware runs at its best. Although benefits depend on the specific driver you choose to update, driver updates generally deliver one or several of the following benefits:
- Better hardware compatibility and reduced system conflicts
- Refined and improved device performance
- Removed bugs and device errors
- New device capabilities or unlocked features
