Clean Epson Print Head

Infopackets Reader George S. writes: " Dear Dennis, Since I can't seem to get a response from Epson, I wonder if you have any information about the approximate print head life of a low priced printer like the Epson C66. I have printed about 5,000 ... pages in black, using the normal text mode, and now the print head seems to be showing signs of wear. Is this about normal? " My response: Printing 5,000 pages should not cause your printer to wear-out prematurely. My best guess is that your print head is clogged with ink (rather than worn away). If you used an ink refill as opposed to ... (view more)

Print Folder (Files in Directory)?

Infopackets Reader Bill M. writes: " Dear Dennis, I just finished reading last week's Gazette article entitled, " Print MP3 Playlist? ", and have a related question that I'd like to ask. For several years, I've been using both Macintosh and PC ... systems for graphic design. On a Macintosh system, it is possible to print the file and directory structure for a folder being examined when using File Manager (the equivalent of Windows Explorer). However, I have yet to find this feature present in MS Windows! My work-around (thus far) has been to press Shift + PrintScreen on my keyboard ... (view more)

Freeware greeting card program?, Part 2

Recall -- Last week, Infopackets Reader Jenny C. asked if I knew of a freeware greeting card program. She wrote: " I am wondering if you could help me: I have been trying to find a small (and hopefully free) software program to create ordinary ... greeting cards -- one that I can put my own pictures or clipart on, write my own verse, and mail it (via snail mail) to friends. I used to use a greeting card program that came pre-packaged with my computer, but the program has expired and I can no longer use it. I would love to make my own greeting cards and I am sure other subscribers would too. ... (view more)

Print filenames listed in a folder?

Last newsletter, Infopackets Reader Brad B. asked if there was a way to import and print a list of filenames contained in a folder using an MS DOS command. Since then, I have received a number of comments from Readers with alternative solutions. ... Infopackets Reader Sam T. writes: " In your newsletter dated Feb 4, 2004, a reader (Brad B.) was looking for a program that would print the contents of a directory. Cheap printer with print head built onto cartridge?

Infopackets Reader Brian P. writes: " Hello Dennis, My Epson printer has just given up on me and I suspect it may have a lot to do with the fact that I refilled my empty cartridges with generic ink, rather than replace them with cruelly expensive ... name-brand cartridges. As a result, my print head has gummed up to the point where I need to buy a new printer. Having re-read your article regarding your printing experience with your Canon BJ-200 , which is no doubt well out of date now [December 18, 2002], I wondered if you could recommend an inexpensive printer that's available on the market ... (view more)
