Researchers Crack GSM Cell Phone Security

Hackers could soon be listening to your cellphone call. That's the word from the Chaos Communication Conference in Berlin, an annual get-together for hackers. Cryptographers at the conference say they've been able to crack a code that, on a normal ... day, prevents the interception of mobile phone calls by forcing those phones to consistently change frequencies across a list of about eighty channels. Since those not working for a cellphone company would have an almost impossible time knowing the sequence of this frequency change-up, hackers usually have no way of intercepting more than a few ... (view more)

Best Crack of Vista Yet: Now Available

Although critics have argued over the necessity of Microsoft's latest operating system, Windows Vista, there's little doubt that it does improve upon the security and simple visual functions offered by XP. That's the primary reason behind hacker ... attempts to crack the software, with moderate success stories in the past few months. Now, it appears as though the most complete crack yet has been made available, one that can avert the problematic activation period. Previous hacks to Vista, while said to be useful, have been only partially complete. That's because they've been largely subject to ... (view more)

Iranians Crack Windows Vista

Vista's been out and it's all the buzz. Some critics are claiming it just doesn't pack enough must-have applications to make it worth the costly upgrade, while others find the vastly improved Aero graphics and security to be a necessity for any home ... or office. Regardless, most people would probably take Vista if it were just a bit cheaper. How's $8 sound? That's the price set by Iranian hackers, who have reportedly cracked Microsoft's new operating system. Word of the crack comes from Iranian watchdog Taliya News, who believe the illegal act was performed so people of that country could ... (view more)

Vista Activation Crack Improved

It wasn't so long ago that we reported on a Vista crack , which gave hackers access to the new operating system (OS) without ever paying a dime. Now, it appears that crack has been improved, and it means more headaches for Microsoft as the home ... release of Vista nears in only a month's time. The original crack surrounded setting up a Key Management Server, and then exposing a weakness in Microsoft supported Voice Activation 2.0. By doing this, hackers could gain free access to Vista for 180 days before the activation ran out. That's six months, and although not an eternity, it's certainly ... (view more)

Vista Crack Available

Microsoft definitely does not need this. Less than two weeks after a rather successful business launch (that did, however, have its own problems), it has become clear that a crack is available to home users that will exploit one of Vista's features ... and allow pirates to use the system for free, for up to 180 days. Although Microsoft is remaining very, very quiet about the crack (with only a rep or two whispering to the media that there's no evidence to support the rumor), it isn't particularly difficult to find a torrent or two offering it up. The key is for the user to obtain a Windows Vista ... (view more)

Dictionary Attack

A dictionary attack refers to the general technique of trying to guess some secret by running through a list of likely possibilities, often a list of words from a dictionary. It contrasts to a brute force attack in which all possibilities are tried. ... The attack works because users often choose easy-to-guess passwords, even after being exhorted against doing so. Dictionary (and brute force) attacks may be applied in two main situations: in cryptanalysis, in trying to determine the key needed to decrypt a given piece of encrypted data; in computer security, in trying to gain unauthorized access ... (view more)

Windows XP Service Pack 1 Crack

What's a software crack? A "crack" -- as it is commonly referred to -- is program that removes copy protection from software. Commonly, cracks are used on software applications and games that would otherwise require an unlock code or registration to ... continue using the software. Windows XP Service Pack 1 was released September 9th, 2002 Yep, that's right. The big bad Service Pack that the world has been waiting for has finally been released. It promises to fix all those nasty bugs that plague Windows XP and make it a lot more stable. Will it fix my GeForce NVidia MX400 video driver ... (view more)
