Google CEO Wants YouTube to Take More of Your Money

Google CEO Eric Schmidt announced that his company's top priority this year is to make the YouTube video-sharing site a more profitable enterprise through the introduction of new advertising strategies. In an interview that aired on CNBC on ... Wednesday, Schmidt said, "I don't think we've quite figured out the perfect solution of how to make money, and we're working on that. Flickr Flashes New Video Feature In Challenge To YouTube

The image-hosting site Flickr has launched an online video page that appears to be a natural rival to YouTube. However, most analysts think the move has come too late. It's an extension of the search engine wars: Flickr is owned by Yahoo, while ... Google owns YouTube. Though Yahoo already has a video hosting service, it's only available to media outlets and professionals. The new Flickr service will allow anyone to view videos, but only 'pro' members can upload footage. This will cost $24.95 a year, and even then clips will be limited to 90 seconds. That's in sharp contrast to YouTube, which ... (view more)

Oopsie: Pakistan Government Breaks YouTube

Pakistan's government appears to have blundered big-time in an attempt to block its citizens viewing videos on YouTube. The state-run Pakistan Telecom attempted to perform what amounted to a hijacking of YouTube's web server addresses. The idea was ... that anyone attempting to access the site through a Pakistani Internet provider would automatically be re-routed to a different address. Unfortunately, it seems the technical detour was mistakenly copied to a Hong Kong server. From there, it was automatically repeated to all connected servers and, given the nature of the Internet, was almost ... (view more)

From Couch Potato to 'Tuber'

YouTube and 66% were sacrificing other activities to watch YouTube. Among their sacrifices: 20% were pre-empting their email and social network time, 19% were deferring their work or homework, 15% sacrificed playing video games, and 12% were substituting spending time with friends or family. Fox and NBC Set Sights on YouTube

The kids are are raging about two websites these days, with both boasting enough addictive content to distract them from homework, chores, and life in general. Could this be the End of YouTube?

When Google purchased popular online video site YouTube for over a billion dollars a year ago, many industry analysts raised eyebrows in disbelief. The Big G is still struggling to make a profit with that investment, and recent copyright lawsuits ... demanding billions more dollars are not helping. That's why Google and YouTube have now officially unveiled a "content identification system," which will give copyright owners control over how their material appears on the video-based site. The new service's official name is YouTube Video Identification, and Google hopes it will calm angry legal seas ... (view more)

YouTube 101

"You'll never get anywhere by watching TV all day." That has been a popular refrain uttered by mothers for generations upon generations. Today's mothers may even be saying the same thing about the Internet's version of television, YouTube. Only, ... this time, they're wrong. You can get somewhere by watching YouTube. Well, if you attend Pitzer College, that is. Pitzer has added a new course to its curriculum. The subject: YouTube. (Source: yahoo.com ) "The class is a lot of fun but it is also meant to be serious," stated the course's instructor, Professor Alexandra Juhasz. "It's a serious class ... (view more)

Prince Punishes Piracy, Copyright Infringers

Although he may appear fairly harmless, Prince is about to attack. That's right, the singer known for partying like it's 1999 and "Purple Rain" will soon flood controversial Internet sites YouTube and PirateBay with allegations of copyright ... infringement. For those who don't know, Prince is a bit of a stickler when it comes to this kind of thing. Recently playing to screaming crowds at The 02 Arena in London, England, the artist banned fans from taking photos or recording video with their mobile phones. Since that probably didn't stop anyone from immediately posting such content on good 'ol ... (view more)

YouTube Infected with Malware
