Use more than Spyware Remover for Redundant Protection?

" Dear Dennis,

I have Spy Sweeper installed in my computer, but last week after running Norton Antivirus I discovered a threat called 'Adware.Ezula.' Thanks to an article of yours I also downloaded Acronis True Image, which I have found fantastic, so I was able to revert my system back to a previous state (and without the Adware.Ezula on my system)!

I was so impressed with True Image that I decided to examine the entire Acronis product line. I came across their 'Acronis Privacy Expert Suite', and I would appreciate your opinion on whether or not I should run Privacy Expert Suite simultaneously with Spy Sweeper? As usual, thank you for your advice. "

My response:

According to the Acronis web site, "Privacy Expert Suite provides proactive, real time protection against Spyware parasites, Adware, keyloggers, hidden dialers, browser hijackers, and other malicious programs."

In short, Privacy Expert Suite does the same job as Spy Sweeper, Spyware Doctor and other Spyware removers. With respect to your question: I think you will be OK with just using Spy Sweeper on your system because it has an automatic update mechanism and provides real-time protection. Combining more than 1 real-time Spyware remover will undoubtedly slow your computer down or even cause file-access problems (hint: both programs may attempt to scan the same file at the same time).

Some folks have emailed me in the past and reported using real-time Spyware removers (like Spy Sweeper, Spyware Doctor, etc) along with freeware Spyware removers (the ones that don't offer real-time protection). The idea is that having different Spyware removers will catch different Spyware variants, and this is a redundant form of protection.

" Dennis, thank you for your response to my question. I have enjoyed your letters for some time now, and your clear response makes me feel bad about using your time and knowledge for free. Do you have some system whereby I can make a donation to your website. Perhaps PayPal? "

My response:

Thanks for the offer. Yes, you (and anyone else who wishes to) can donate to our web site by visiting the link below. Much thanks.
