What is the Windows Registry?
The Windows Registry is a database containing all the information about the operating system and installed applications. The Registry stores information about things like mail preferences, what image is used for desktop wallpaper, and thousands of other little details.
Each time a new application is installed, information about the application is written to the Registry. Windows reads these Registry entries each time the application is used. To accommodate the new entries, the Registry database gradually grows in size.
By design, the Registry does not shrink in size when an application is uninstalled. Instead, the Registry leaves a blank entry where a program reference once existed. Blank entries create fragmentation of the Registry, causing the operating system to take longer to find information. Occasionally, these blank entries cause Windows to crash.
What is Registry Compactor?
Registry Compactor optimizes the Registry beyond traditional cleaning tools. Optimization occurs through compacting the Registry, permanently erasing deleted entries, and rebuilding the Registry each time the Compactor is run.
Similar to a disk defragmenter, Registry Compactor analyzes the Registry and checks for fragmentation. In the same respect, defragmenting the Registry reduces computer memory usage, speeds up boot time, and improves application performance.
Registry Mechanic vs. Registry Compactor
If you are already using a Registry cleaning tool like Registry Mechanic, keep using it. If you aren't using Registry Mechanic, read my review to find out why you should be. Over time, the Registry gets fragmented, creating performance issues. Using Registry Compactor keeps the Registry defragmented and compacted, resulting in a faster, more stable operating system.
The trial version scans the Registry and provides results of the scan; registration is required to compact the Registry.
