Ready or Not, Here Comes Internet Explorer 7
Microsoft posted notice to administrators that on February 12, 2008 Microsoft will release the Windows Internet Explorer 7 Installation and Availability update to Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) marked as an Update Rollup package -- and they included instructions on how to prevent it to ensure you end up with the version of Internet Explorer you want.
Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 946202 describes the Windows Internet Explorer 7 Installation and Availability Update that will upgrade machines running Internet Explorer 6 to Windows Internet Explorer 7 if you use WSUS to manage updates. If you have WSUS configured to auto-approve Rollups for installation you will need to take some action to prevent installation of the update.
Microsoft KB article 940767 contains more information on the Windows Internet Explorer 7 Installation and Availability Update. This update will not affect Windows Vista, but users of Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based computers or Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based computers that have Internet Explorer 6 installed will be.
