Disable Word 2007's Mini Toolbar
When you select text in MS Word 2007 the Mini-toolbar appears. At first it is faint but when you hover your mouse over it, it becomes much clearer and prominent.
The Mini toolbar is designed to put common formatting commands close at hand for you. It is very convenient if you want to highlight a selection or change font characteristics, but the Mini toolbar can be cumbersome if you want to rearrange text by clicking and dragging. It can also be very distracting when you want to right-click to access the contextual menu.
If, for whatever reason, you find you do not like the Mini toolbar, follow the steps below to disable it:
- Click the Office button.
- Select Word Options.
- Click Popular in the left column.
- Deselect Show Mini Toolbar on selection.
Poof! It's gone!
