Most folks use the same margins for all of their documents. It's just as easy to set the default margins in Word 2007 as it was in 2003. Follow the easy steps below so that you only have to set your margins once.

If, for instance all of your documents have one-inch margins, you can set them once, and then make it the default setting for all new documents.

Follow along with the easy steps below:

  1. In the ribbon, click the Page Layout tab.

  2. Click the Margins tool in the Page Setup group.

  3. Click Custom Margins.

  4. Change your right and left margins to one inch.

  5. Click the Default button.

  6. Click Yes.

All new documents based on your document's template will now have one-inch margins.

If you should have an instance when you would need to change your margins to two inches, that is just as easy to accomplish. Follow the steps below.

  1. In the ribbon, click the Page Layout tab.

  2. Click the Margins tool in the Page Setup group.

  3. Click Wide.

The left and right margins for the document you are currently working on will adjust to two inches.
