Still Xmas Shopping? Read Dennis' Amazon.com How-To Guide + Last-Minute Gift Ideas

Do you shop online or do you prefer brick-and-mortar stores? Ask anyone that question and you'd likely get a varying answer.

For myself: I started shopping online 7 years ago. Back then, there wasn't user commenting / opinions and reseller ratings for websites, so purchasing anything online gave me great hesitation.

Flash forward a few years and things have changed quite a bit. Buying online -- at least, for me, is a regular part of my life and I look forward to it because it's often a fun and an exciting experience.

One such site, Amazon.com, is one of the biggest and best places I shop online frequently.

From my experiences, I have put together a Top 5 List of reasons why I shop online Amazon.com, especially with Christmas just around the corner.

You can use this as an Amazon.com buying guide, complete with instructional pictures. I've also included last-minute gift ideas that are guaranteed to please even the fusiest person on your gift-giving list.

#1: Sales, Discounts, Super Saver Shipping, and Tax-Free Purchases

How can you out-do a really good deal? How about a really, really, really good deal?

Perhaps the number one reason for buying online Amazon.com are the compounded savings.

Take any item online Amazon, for example. In most cases, items are already discounted to begin with because of all the fierce competition amongst vendors selling the same item through Amazon.

On top of that: if your purchase is over $25 USD, in many cases, Amazon offers Free Super Saver Shipping.

Compound that with the fact that there are no taxes for out-of-state purchases (in 99% of all cases), and there's just no comparison when buying anywhere else (online or offline).

#2 User Ratings, Product Information, and Comparison Shopping

Because Amazon.com is one of the largest -- if not *the* largest -- shops online, there's plenty of user comments available (both positive and negative) which describe experiences with a product.

Almost all of my purchases are based on feedback I've read from other users. User comments are also incredibly helpful when comparison shopping similar products.

When I'm trying to find the best deal possible, I'm often comparing multiple items. Therefore, I need to know the technical specs so that I can make an informed decision before I purchase an item. Amazon goes to great lengths to provide the nitty-gritty-details about a product, including its weight, measurements, and technical aspects.

#3 Amazon Sellers, Selection, and Stock Availability

Amazon Sellers are third-party affiliates that sell items through Amazon's website.

Amazon itself stocks items in their own warehouse, but if their stock is low or not available, Amazon will automatically present you with the next-best buying option from another seller.

You can also buy refurbished items, often considerably less than the full retail price.

#4 Shop 24 Hours a Day, and Shop Securely

Everyone has a different schedule. What makes online shopping so great is that you can go online any time from your computer (or virtually anywhere, for that matter), and the store is always open.

Depending on your time zone, Amazon will even calculate if your order can be shipped the same business day. That's uber-convenient, especially when it comes down to holiday shopping deadlines.

When you create your account at Amazon.com, it's password protected and only Amazon holds your account information (including your credit card details).

When you make a transaction, it's done through Amazon and never through a third party. In other words, Amazon Sellers never see your account information.

#5 Saves Gas, Time, Avoid Crowds and Ships To Your Door

Shopping in brick-and-mortar stores can be a pain, especially during the holidays. Why waste your time and gas driving from place to place? Shopping online is quick, easy, and saves oodles of time -- and you don't have to wait in line to pay for your item.

I can tell you from personal experience, this makes holiday shopping so much more satisfying.

And don't forget: Amazon lets you ship items directly to your door, another residence, or even at work!
