One of my subscribers wrote to me recently asking: Do you happen to know how to display paragraph style names in the document window under Word 2007. Link or Embed Excel Charts: MS Word

If an Excel chart already exists, it's a simple matter to link or embed one into an MS Word document. The techniques are similar to those for linking and embedding Excel worksheets by using the Paste Special command. Importing from a Word Outline: MS PowerPoint

How many times have you been asked to give a presentation based on an existing report or other document? Embed Excel Worksheets in a Table: MS Word

Rather than just pasting raw numbers into a table, you can embed a worksheet into a document. Embedding retains the formulas that ride behind your numbers and all the functionality of Excel. You can create an Excel worksheet from scratch, or, if the ... worksheet already exists, you can insert it using the Paste Special command. Although an embedded worksheet behaves as a picture in the document, when you double-click to modify it, Excel opens within MS Word, allowing you to use Excel's formulas to calculate results. One drawback to embedding an Excel worksheet is that it increases the file size ... (view more)

Send fax through MS Word?

Infopackets Gazette Reader Viv 'Better Letters' writes: " Dear Dennis, I read with interest all your newsletters, and although I haven't had any of the problems that some people have had, I really enjoy reading everything your site has to offer. And ... now, I have a query: a colleague of mine wants to send a fax through her PC running Windows XP Pro. She doesn't have a fax machine connected to her PC, but she does have a phone line which has an ADSL Internet connection. Try as she might, her MS Word Document fax won't send out of the outbox. Freeware MS Office Replacement

In the May 21st, 2003 issue of the Infopackets Gazette, I asked readers if they knew of a freeware document converter for MS Word .DOC files: Word Perfect 2000 won't read MS Word documents? Unfortunately, I did not receive many software suggestions. ... My guess is that most users have MS Word installed on their machines and have little need for such a conversion utility... thus the reason for low response. How to customize the Send To Menu

Infopackets Reader Cleo writes: " I have tried putting Microsoft Word in my Send To Menu a dozen times: it shows up in the send to folder in the C drive, but won't show up in the Send To Menu. Any ideas? " My response: It is possible that the Send ... To shortcuts were placed in the wrong SendTo folder. For Windows 9x and NT, the SendTo folder location is C:\Windows\SendTo. For Windows 2000 and XP, the whereabouts of the [current] SendTo folder depends on which user logged in to the machine. The Send To feature allows users to launch a file using a program which has not been previously ... (view more)

Word Perfect 2000 won't read MS Word documents?

Infopackets Reader Warren P. writes: " Dear Dennis, I'm a new member of your newsletter and have a question! I have Word Perfect 2000 installed on my computer. It appears that I am no longer able to open Microsoft Word (.DOC) files. Earlier versions ... of .DOC files opened up in Word Pad. Any ideas? " My Response: There are a few possibilities that I can think of. Either: a) The Windows file association for .DOC files may have changed and no longer points to Word Pad, or b) The .DOC file could have been corrupt and is producing an error message. In this case, try to obtain another copy and avoid ... (view more)
